The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its eight month strike, Channels TV has confirmed.
The decision was taken unanimously by members of its National Executive Council after a lengthy six hour meeting which began on Thursday night.
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, a member who requested anonymity said the outcome was positive and the final decision was adopted based on how the branches voted. He also hinted that university students have waited long enough and can return to class once again.
When ASUU president Prof. Emmanuel Oedeke was reached, he only briefed that “We (ASUU) will release an official memo today (Friday)” and also, added that the ‘result is not a bad one’.
Full details of the agreement between the union and the federal government that led to the suspension of the strike are expected in a press conference later today.
